Protest Against State Takeover in Austin

The March 16 rally against state takeover is POSTPONED due to concerns about the Coronavirus.

We will be holding a virtual rally on Monday, March 16, from 11 am-12 noon. Even though the rally in Austin is postponed, our fight against takeover and for strong public schools in every neighborhood IS NOT RESCHEDULED.

During the virtual rally on Monday from 11 am-12 pm-

  1. POST photos of yourself with your rally signs, videos of your speeches and statements of solidarity across all of your social media platforms. Use the hashtags #NoHISDTakeover, #OurSchoolsOurSay, #MoreThanAScore and the group you are affiliated with.
  2. CHANGE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PROFILE PICTURE to the NoHISDTakeover meme on or before March 16.
  3. CALL Governor Abbott’s office (512-463-2000) or the Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath (512-463-8985, commissioner@tea.texas.gov) to express your opposition to state takeover.

“We oppose any effort to remove democratic control from local districts like HISD. Voters have elected a new school board. Local control and fully funding our schools in every neighborhood are what our children need. Test scores are highly correlated to socioeconomic status and cannot be used to take over schools or school districts. We stand with our children, and oppose this power grab.”

STAY TUNED for how you can participate in the virtual rally at our FB PAGE, FB Group, Twitter or Instagram @houstoncvpe
