In a functioning democracy, we should be able to count on our leaders to tell the truth. But whether it’s Trump or Houston’s own Mike Miles, we’re getting propaganda instead of accountability.

Want to fight back? Meet the Save Our Schools: End the Takeover HISD School Board candidates at a Good Trouble event tomorrow at 7 PM at 3302 Canal St. RSVP here.

Elected trustees won’t have voting power yet—but if we stay silent, Miles’ apologists or right-wing extremists could take these seats.

With Miles, it’s not 'Two Truths and a Lie'; it’s just Lie, Lie, and More Lies. Meanwhile, it’s schoolchildren who pay the price.

Miles says students can still read books, but most libraries are locked or gutted. How can kids learn when real books are banned until after STAAR, and teachers who resist get fired?

Miles has repeatedly boasted that 95% of teachers planned to return. The truth is that Miles has driven out about 4,700 teachers in his first year, and another 3,490 (from PIR data) since July 2024. That’s over 8,000 educators gone under this takeover. For comparison, it took four years before the takeover to lose that many. Under Miles, it took just two. He’s bleeding the district dry—and fast.

The biggest betrayal is how Miles rigs STAAR data and it is students who suffer. Earlier this month, Texas Monthly reported that the two-year jump in algebra and biology scores was, at least in part, a result of systematically pushing students at NES schools into less rigorous math and science classes. By delaying biology and algebra for NES students, Miles is inflating scores while denying kids access to advanced coursework. That’s not equity—it's institutional harm. If you missed the story, here it is.

Enough gaslighting. Enough damage. Come meet the candidates who are ready to fight for the schools our kids deserve.
