Houston ISD Takeover: Miles Is Trying to Purge Great Teachers. Don’t let him win! 8,000 teachers gone in two years – and these are just two of many.

A beloved Durham teacher with 11 years of service, top scores, and deep family ties to HISD was abruptly removed “to protect the culture.” [LINK]

A longtime HISD teacher and union leader once praised by Chief Massey as “high-performing” was removed for refusing to violate special education and emerging bilingual laws after filing a state complaint. [LINK]

These aren’t isolated incidents; they’re a glimpse into a district-wide purge under Miles’ disastrous takeover. Save our students.

Here’s how you can stand up for our students and teachers this week:

    • TONIGHT (9/8) – Board Colonoscopy: Want to dig into this week’s HISD agenda packet? Join the Colonoscopy meeting at 8 pm. [RSVP for Zoom link]
    • WEDNESDAY (9/10) – HISD State Takeover Commission Listening Session #1: 6–7:30 pm at Trinity Gardens Church of Christ, 7725 Sandra St. Speakers have two minutes each to share their story on any takeover-related topic. RSVP optional. There are a total of three listening sessions. See updated flyer above.
    • THURSDAY (9/12) – HISD Board Meeting: Speak on agenda items in person at 4400 W 18th St or via Zoom. Speakers usually begin after 6 pm. [Agenda link] [Sign-up link—closes Wednesday at noon]. Pro tip: Sign up for at least five agenda items — pick the ones that matter, or just your favorite numbers from 1–31. Do NOT sign up for hearing of citizens. [Step-by-step sign up instructions]

Your presence matters. Every story shared and every voice raised brings us closer to ending this takeover and restoring real learning to HISD classrooms.
