[en español clic aquí] Will you speak up against the school closures on Thursday? Register by noon, Wednesday.
Schools are the heartbeat of every community. Yet, F Mike Miles has given the public just two weeks’ notice before the appointed Board of Managers rubber stamps 12 closures, all in under-resourced Black and Brown neighborhoods, while small schools in other neighborhoods stay open. This is a Special Meeting to approve those closures announced on February 12th.
The appointed Board of Managers answers only to Morath, not voters, so we cannot hold them accountable at the ballot box. And that is wrong. Like, you know, democracy.
This takeover will end when we vote out the governor or find out which train Miles is using to cart off dollars meant for Houston schoolchildren. Your vote is your voice. Vote for public education candidates during Early Vote, ending Friday at 7 pm.
The Board will also vote to convert Clemente Martinez and Gregg Elementary into AI schools (Agenda Item 3) and approve SB 1882 pre-K charters (Agenda Item 1)

🗣️ How Speaker Order Works
-
Students, parents, and elected officials speak first at 5:00 p.m. ONLY if they fill out the priority Zoom form included in the confirmation email after registering.
- Look for the line: “If you wish to be prioritized to speak early…”
- The form must be submitted by 2:00 p.m. the day before the meeting
-
Save the Zoom link shown after submitting — it will not be emailed to you
- Everyone else speaks later, typically between 6:30–8:00 p.m.
- In-person speakers go before Zoom speakers
- Speaker order is based on lobby sign-in, unless the Board President changes it
(Yes — it’s confusing on purpose.)
⏱️ Time Limits for Speakers
- 30 or more speakers: 1 minute per speaker (about 150 words)
Fewer than 30 speakers: 2 minutes per speaker (about 300 words)
