HISD's four 1882 partnership charter agreements are costing the district about $3.8 million a year.
The math: LINK to HISD’s preliminary budget
$24.0M lost revenue (now going directly to 1882 schools)
− $19.0M reduced HISD expenses
− $1.2M HISD management fees received
= $3.8M net loss
HISD estimates that closing a school saves about $1.2 million per year. The partnerships cost $3.8 million annually, wiping out the savings from roughly three school closures.
That reality is unlikely to sit well with the families at the 12 schools closed in February, who were told the closures were necessary to save money.

In a recent Substack article, National Board-Certified English teacher Laura Henry explores what gets lost when we confuse test results with learning.
