In this issue: Mariachis and Cornyn, Opt Out , Labor Canvass for teachers this weekend
Do you enjoy Mariachis and advocacy? Join United We Dream on TUE to demand that Sen Cornyn supports a pathway to citizenship! Come out on Tuesday, April 6th - 11AM CT outside of Senator Cornyn’s Office located in 5300 Memorial Drive, Houston TX 77007!
Opt Out 101: TUE, April 6 is the first day of STAAR testing for grades 4 and 7 writing and high school English 1 and English 2. Here is how you can take back our schools for meaningful instruction instead of endless STAAR and test prep. If not now during COVID, when?
- TEA has stated that STAAR is NOT required if you are virtual. Just stay home to opt out. No letter is required. Your child will log in as they normally would and will be counted present for school attendance.
- If your child is learning face-to-face, inform your school in writing that your child will not be taking the STAAR. Here is a sample letter. Tex Ed Code Ch 26.010 allows a parent to temporarily remove a child from an activity for religious or moral reasons. [opt out letter for principal] and [carta de opt out para director de la escuela].
- Read more here at optouttexas.org and grade 3-8 opt out and high school opt out.
- WILL YOU FILL OUT THIS CONFIDENTIAL OPT-OUT PETITION HERE?
