It is a good thing that so many people are fighting for public education. Will you put these dates on your calendar at your convenience?

May 4th: Join us at CVPE General Meeting from 12:30-2:30 pm at Trinity Gardens Church of Christ.

Rep Christina Morales and Rep. Penny Morales Shaw will lead a discussion about opportunities at the state level to fight for public education. We will also discuss other ways to stand up for teachers, students and schools. RSVP houstoncvpe.org/events.

April 27th:  Blockwalk for public education and voter engagement from 9:30 am-noon. Bring comfortable walking shoes and a fully charged phone. No experience required. RSVP houstoncvpe.org/events.

May 9th: Speak at the 5 pm board meeting!

The board meeting is during Teacher Appreciation Week. This is so ironic given the superintendent’s disdain for teachers.

With that in mind, many speakers plan to speak about the amazing things so many teachers are doing in their classrooms to help students, despite the toxic working and learning conditions foisted on them. You can speak in person or on Zoom. Registration opens May 6th at 5 pm.

May 18: Blockwalk for CVPE Endorsed candidate Lauren Simmons, Democratic candidate for HD 146. More information coming soon.

July 13th: The CVPE Summer Forum is July 13th from 9am-3 pm. Julian Vasquez Heilig will be our keynote speaker. CVPE holds a summer forum every two years to bring people together to learn about public education issues, to fight back against the forces who want to dismantle public education, and to work together to support and improve public education. More information is coming soon.
