"Are kindergarten kids at NES schools really doing packets? My daughter saw my third grade son’s packet and said, ‘I do those!’ I asked how, since she can’t read yet. She said her teacher reads it to her and she just circles A, B, or C. I'm furious and heartbroken that the Miles and HISD takeover has ruined kindergarten," said Crockett parent Camille Breaux.

Research shows that kindergarten needs to be a full-day, play-based program emphasizing social-emotional learning and hands-on activities. Classrooms should be packed with materials that spark creativity and curiosity. Teachers support and guide play and discovery intentionally to ensure each child makes progress toward specific learning goals.

Several HISD teachers shared the NES Daily Schedule for five and six year-olds.

Each day, students take four quizzes, adding up to 20 per week. With 22 kids, that’s 440 quizzes to grade and teachers are often up until midnight double-checking Mike Miles' error-ridden PowerPoints.

There’s no room for reteaching. If students don’t grasp the lesson today, teachers must move on. For example, the SSO/ED interrupted a teacher’s lesson to demand she start the DOL (Demonstration of Learning), ignoring her concerns about students needing more time to grasp the concepts and insisting that the class was ten minutes behind schedule.

This is educational malpractice.
