Will you speak up for Houston ISD schoolchildren? 

On Thursday, 3/19/2026, come to the HISD Board of Managers meeting at 5:00 pm at HISD, at 4400 W 18th St. Bring family and friends. Kids speak first and adults speak on a first-come first-served basis. Zoom speakers are after in-person speakers. 

To speak at the Thursday Board meeting, register on the HISD website to speak anytime from Monday (1/16) at 5 pm to Wednesday (3/18) at noon the week of the board meeting.

1. If this is your first time registering to speak, click here to make an account for their system. You only need to do this step once. Then log into your account any time you want to register to speak at a meeting. If you don’t get a confirmation email, first check your spam. Then, call board services at  713-556-6121 or [email protected]. They will help you register to speak.
2. For first time speakers, after creating an account, click on view agenda and scroll down to agenda items which are on the second page.
3. For people who have an exisiting account, click on the registration link above and then "e-comment" for the meeting and time (5 pm) you wish to register for (far-right of the screen). 
4. Pick an agenda item or sign up for all of them. See below for sample agenda items for this meeting. Click both “register to speak” and “I agree.” Do not sign up for the hearing of the community. They always speak at the end. A couple of times, the board president only allowed speakers to agenda item 1 or 2 to speak at the beginning of the meeting and everyone else was delayed an hour or two. Pro tip: When there are a lot of agenda items, sign up for as many as you can to increase your chances of speaking earlier in the meeting.
5. You have a SECOND FORM to fill out if you want to speak on Zoom OR if you are a parent, student or public officials who wants to speak at the beginning of the meeting.  It comes in the email confirmation after you sign up. Look for the part that says "if you wish to be prioritized to speak early, fill out the form at this link..." The form must be submitted before 2 pm the day before the meeting. Be sure to save the zoom link that appears when you submit the form because they will not email you the link.

Speakers are called in the order they sign in at the registration table in the HISD Lobby, unless the board president adjusts the order. Kids are first. Zoom speakers come after in-person speakers. 

Total time to speak: If there are 30 or more speakers, you will have 1 min (150 words.) If there are less than 30 speakers, you will have 2 min (300 words)

El jueves 19 de marzo, acompáñanos a la reunión de la Junta de Gerentes de HISD a las 5:00 p. m. en HISD, ubicado en 4400 W 18th St. Trae a tu familia y amistades. Las niñas y los niños hablan primero y las personas adultas hablan por orden de llegada. Quienes hablen por Zoom participarán después de las personas que hablen en persona.

Para hablar en la reunión de la Junta del jueves, regístrate en el sitio web de HISD para hablar en cualquier momento desde el lunes (16 de marzo) a las 5:00 p. m. hasta el miércoles (18 de marzo) al mediodía, durante la semana de la reunión de la junta.

1. Si es tu primera vez registrándote para hablar, haz clic aquí para crear una cuenta. Solo necesita hacer este paso una vez. Después, puede iniciar sesión en su cuenta cada vez que quiera registrarse para hablar en una reunión. Si no recibes un correo de confirmación, primero revisa tu carpeta de "Spam". Luego, llama a HISD al 713-556-6121 o escribe a [email protected]. Ellos te ayudarán a registrarte para hablar.
2. Para las personas que hablen por primera vez, después de crear una cuenta, haz clic en “View agenda” [ver agenda] y desplázate hacia abajo hasta los puntos de la agenda, que están en la segunda página.
3. Para las personas que ya tienen una cuenta, haz clic en el enlace de registro de arriba y luego en “e-comment” para la reunión y la hora (5 p. m.) en la que deseas registrarte (en el extremo derecho de la pantalla).
4. Elige un punto de la agenda o inscríbete en todos. Consulta abajo los ejemplos de puntos de la agenda para esta reunión. Haz clic tanto en "register to speak" [registrarse para hablar] como en “I agree.” [acepto]. No te registres para “hearing of the community” (audiencia de la comunidad). Esa parte siempre es al final. En algunas ocasiones, el/la presidente/a de la junta solo permitió que las personas inscritas en los puntos 1 o 2 de la agenda hablaran al inicio de la reunión y todas las demás tuvieron que esperar una o dos horas. Consejo: cuando hay muchos puntos en la agenda, inscríbete en tantos como puedas para aumentar tus probabilidades de hablar más temprano en la reunión.
5. Hay un SEGUNDO FORMULARIO que debes llenar si quieres hablar por Zoom O si eres madre/padre de familia, estudiante o funcionario/a público/a y quieres hablar al inicio de la reunión. Este formulario viene en el correo de confirmación después de registrarte. Busca la parte que dice: “if you wish to be prioritized to speak early, fill out the form at this link…”. El formulario debe enviarse antes de las 2 p. m. del día anterior a la reunión. Asegúrate de guardar el enlace de Zoom que aparece cuando envías el formulario, porque no te enviarán el enlace por correo electrónico.

Las personas que van a hablar son llamadas en el orden en que se registran en la mesa de registro en el vestíbulo de HISD, a menos que el/la presidente/a de la junta cambie el orden. Las y los estudiantes van primero. Las personas que hablan por Zoom van después de quienes hablan en persona.

Tiempo total para hablar:
Si hay 30 o más personas inscritas para hablar, tendrás 1 minuto (150 palabras).
Si hay menos de 30 personas inscritas, tendrás 2 minutos (300 palabras).
