SB1365 has been postponed until Sunday. This takeover bill is so bad for kids and schools that NO amendments will make it better. 

Will you call your state reps or send this e-letter TODAY and urge them to vote no to the amended bill?  

These amendments are like putting lipstick on a pig. As of yesterday-

• The bill still allows the TEA commissioner to take over any district for any reason.

• It still makes the commissioner’s decisions final and significantly limits the circumstances under which a school district can appeal a takeover decision to the courts. They just deleted the words “final and unappealable” but not the substance of the bill.

• It still expands TEA takeover authority to campuses with multiple D-ratings. While the amendment struck the language calling a “D-rated campus unacceptable, it retains the sanctions/takeover to school districts with just one campus that is D-rated for multiple years as long as this occurs subsequent to the 2018-19 school year. In other words, this horrible bill still subjects almost every school district in the state to potential takeover based on a single campus being rated D. 

• Public schools will still be subject to expanded discretionary "special investigations” initiated at the discretion of the TEA commissioner. Charter schools still appear to be exempt.
