No Awards for Destroying Our Schools

On Monday, May 19th, Ric Campo will receive the Kinder Institute's Stephen L. Klineberg Award for Outstanding Civic Leadership Award, "given to individuals who have made a lasting impact on Houston by helping make the region more equitable for all." Is chaos what we are rewarding now?

Ric Campo, as an appointed HISD board member, has been the head cheerleader for the Miles/Morath/Abbott state takeover of HISD since the beginning. It is inappropriate to give such an award to someone whose been so instrumental in promoting the harmful takeover of HISD that has hurt economically disadvantaged students most of all.

El lunes 19 de mayo, Ric Campo recibirá el Premio Stephen L. Klineberg al Liderazgo Cívico Excepcional del Kinder Institute, “otorgado a personas que han tenido un impacto duradero en Houston al ayudar a hacer que la región sea más equitativa para todos.” ¿Estamos premiando el caos ahora?

Ric Campo, como miembro designado de la junta de HISD, ha sido el principal porrista de la toma del distrito por parte de Miles, Morath y Abbott desde el principio. Es inapropiado otorgar un premio de este tipo a alguien que ha sido tan instrumental en promover una intervención dañina que ha afectado, sobre todo, a los estudiantes en desventaja económica.
