The Greater Houston Partnership must be transparent about the true impact of this bond—a $9 billion tax hike, including interest,—that will harm our local communities and economy. Based on Miles’ track record, our children and schools will have little to show for it except the largest school bond debt in history.

No organization claiming to advocate for Houston should support the state's takeover of our schools. It's undemocratic and undermines our right to shape our children's education. Can you write letters today to GHP business CEOs urging them to oppose the HISD bond?

Kids deserve a better bond! The current bond covers only 35 schools—19 full and 16 partial rebuilds. In contrast, the smaller 2012 bond rebuilt or renovated 40 schools (28 full and 12 partial), including more expensive high schools and specialty campuses.

What about the other schools still in need? This massive bond leaves us with so much debt that it will prevent the district from proposing another bond for years to come. Without a clear plan for future bonds, many schools will be left high and dry for decades.

This bond inflates rebuild costs by up to $100 million at many schools compared to the 2023 facilities assessment report, and there’s no meaningful oversight from the appointed board to address this and the many other grifts built into this bond.

That is why “opponents of the bond argue they do not trust Miles to responsibly spend billions in taxpayer money.” The Houston Landing, in a Sept 25th story continues.

You have repeatedly lied to our community and gone against promises made,” HISD parent Dawn Elliott said during an August school board meeting. “Please explain why taxpayers should be willing to trust this board to invest in the very public education system you seem so determined to destroy.”

No bond under Miles. Build a better bond and we will come.

There's still time to send letters urging the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) to oppose the HISD bonds and support our schools! Personalize the sample letter, bcc [email protected] by Monday, and we'll print them. You can also drop off handwritten letters or pick up a yard sign at 619 East 11 1/2 St. by Tuesday am. Meet us at noon at GHP on Tuesday to deliver the letters!

Can you share the message at Tuesday’s Neighbor Night Out? Get some yard signs and flyers ahead of time. You can even set up a table with information about the bond and yard signs to give out.
