Who is the pro-HISD bond group Houstonians for Safe and Healthy Schools?
An alarming detail in the Articles of Incorporation is that Sara Cutter, a partner at Cutter Consulting, is listed as an organizer. Her firm specializes in political advertising for conservative Republican candidates in Colorado.
What are the odds that Colorado political consultants, from the same state as Miles' Third Future Schools charter network, are the ones pushing a bloated, half-baked $4.4 billion bond on Houstonians?
Here are a few of the conservative Colorado school board candidates that Cutter Consulting has promoted. They include book banners, the political arm of the Heritage Foundation opposing diversity, equity and inclusion, and Cutter Consulting's VIDEO work for the 2018 Western Conservative Summit |
According to the Articles of Incorporation for Houstonians for Safe and Healthy Schools, the board of directors are Doug Foshee, Ramon Manning, and Veronica Garcia. All are or have been staff or donors to Good Reason Houston (GRH) and/or Houstonians for Great Public Schools. Some of the board members at Good Reason Houston are also on the board of the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) including GHP President and CEO Steve Kean. Good Reason Houston reported donating just $60,000 to the HISD Foundation (and $0 to HISD) on their 2022 tax form, with less than 1% of their $14.8 million in revenue going to HISD or the HISD Foundation. They spent $380,000 on area charters and $155,000 on other ISDs. Ironically, the same Good Reason Houston staff and donors who gave a mere $60K to support healthy and safe schools in HISD last year are now demanding a $4.4 billion HISD bond. What’s their game? Everyone must stay engaged and vote as if the future of public education depends on it! |
