Also this Saturday 8/6, spend an hour or two in the morning a BC Elmore Elementary Community clean-up in Settegast. RSVP here.

Thank you to everyone who attended the “Read-in” at the State Capitol Rotunda! People read banned books in the Rotunda and were a positive force against the backdrop of parents demanding censorship at the House Public Education Committee hearing. Read more here.

Reminder: Our friends at The Ethnic Studies Network of Texas are holding their Third Annual Convergence via Zoom Thursday and Friday from 9 am - 3:45 pm. You can register for the zoom link here.

CVPE is excited to introduce the newest members of our team, Cesar Segundo and Vychelle Ellison!

Cesar is a first-generation graduate of the University of Houston (‘20) and of Sam Houston High School (‘15); he is also CVPE’s first paid staff member! As Lead Community Organizer, he meets regularly with parents, teachers, students and community members to fulfill the power and the promise of public education. He is a skilled organizer, an exceptional researcher and is committed to improving public education from the grassroots on up.

Vychelle is CVPE’s very first summer intern! She is a University of Texas at Austin sophomore, majoring in Government, where she earned a 3.6 GPA during her Freshman year. She grew up in North Forest and Fifth Ward and graduated from Northside High School (‘21). As our intern, Vychelle has created awesome graphics for CVPE, learned a ton about public education, and participated in grassroots organizing alongside Cesar.

We are so happy to have Cesar & Vychelle as part of our team!
