The fight over what Texas kids learn in social studies is happening right now, and we need you in Austin.

On April 7th, the State Board of Education will hold its first reading of the new social studies TEKS, the curriculum standards that determine what Texas public school students learn. What happens in that room will shape whether the Texas social studies curriculum is about the full history of the world or one in which world cultures are excluded and Texas history and American exceptionalism overshadows all else.

CVPE will be carpooling to Austin on Tuesday, April 7th, leaving from Central Houston around 8 am. RSVP here to this event. We will reach out with more information. There will be a noon rally. Testimony on the social studies TEKS will be in the afternoon.

La lucha por lo que aprenden los estudiantes de Texas en estudios sociales está ocurriendo ahora mismo, y te necesitamos en Austin.

El 7 de abril*, la Junta Estatal de Educación llevará a cabo la primera lectura de los nuevos TEKS de estudios sociales, los estándares curriculares que determinan lo que aprenden los estudiantes de las escuelas públicas de Texas. Este es el momento más crítico para la participación de la comunidad. Lo que sucede en esa sala moldeará si el currículo de estudios sociales de Texas trata de la historia completa del mundo o de una en la que se excluyen las culturas mundiales y el excepcionalismo estadounidense eclipsa todo lo demás.
