School has started. This week, we’re calling on you to speak up at Thursday’s HISD Board of Managers meeting. and we’re sharing our CVPE candidate endorsements, including our recommendation for Saturday’s precinct-chair vote for the open SBOE seat. 

THURSDAY: SPEAK UP FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION

Come to the board meeting Thursday at 5 pm (ish) to share your story. Here is the board agenda packet and step-by-step instructions to sign up to speak. Remember, the deadline to speak is noon Wednesday. 

Mike Miles says TEA says he has until October 9 to fix the botched Special Education roll out. That is not what TEA said. The first corrective action report was due on August 1st.

The clock starts ticking today. Document everything. Botched transportation, last minute changes, whether or not your child has a certified teacher in the classroom. Teachers, if you are asked to do something unlawful, document that and leak it. We are parents and teachers working together for our children!

Can you believe that a parent received a call at 9:30 pm Sunday night with their child’s new Special Education school assignment? That is no way to treat a family. 

It is outrageous that Special Education is nowhere on the Board agenda. To speak about Special Education issues, teachers not even knowing their salary until school started, about Future 2 AI or anything at all, choose agenda item 5, “approval of minutes from the last board meeting.”
