Today at 5 pm, student summer interns with CVPE will host a powerful student panel and press conference. Join them to help elevate student voices and shine a light on what's really happening in our schools. Details here: [LINK].

In the News with Gift Links:

The HISD Convocation yesterday [LINK]: While enrollment nosedives, teacher turnover soars, and schools face closure, Miles throws a taxpayer-funded pep rally, bans the press, features show tunes, and brags about billboards and ‘wholesome environments.’ Miles has also decided that some middle schoolers will Zoom into class twice a month—a COVID-era flop repackaged as innovation.

Teacher Exodus [LINK]: HISD lost 4,700 teachers in the first year of the takeover and approximately 3,300 in year two—likely an undercount, as it excludes July, August, teacher training week resignations and “apprentices” who were the only adult in many classrooms. One campus listed with 23% turnover actually experienced 36%. Teacher turnover is more than twice what it was before the takeover.

The Learning Policy Institute estimates this year’s teacher turnover will cost HISD about $81 Million. Try the tool yourself here: [LINK]

More Test Score Propaganda [LINK]: Even before the state releases official scores on August 15th, Miles claims test scores are "up." He has artificially inflated results by cherry-picking students, withdrawing those with challenges, and tracking strong students into low-level classes to fake academic gains—just like charters do.

It’s a Pyrrhic victory built on Orwellian propaganda. Shame on you, Mike. Shame.

Save the dates: Monday night board colonoscopy on Zoom; speak at the August 14th board meeting and attend the Aug 23rd  CVPE Endorsement meeting.
