TEA just extended the harmful HISD takeover for 2 more years—doubling down on a failed experiment that’s actively harming students. He just replaced four board members who voted yes on nearly everything Mike Miles proposed. Their only offense? Asking questions especially about the budget and impact on kids.

That’s the TEA’s message: even a whisper of dissent gets you the boot. What kind of democracy is that?

The new board members, all male, include a retired banker and a private equity lawyer. Two have served on charter boards. They seem handpicked to sell off HISD real estate piece by piece, put executive salaries first and kids dead last.

Miles is all about optics, not outcomes. Class sizes balloon, libraries are shuttered, huge enrollment declines, and teachers are driven out or fired for daring to bring joy or humanity into the classroom.

This isn’t education—it’s political theater scripted by Governor Abbott and rubber-stamped by his handpicked board.

What we have now is a dictatorship: a state-imposed superintendent with a rubber-stamping board, spending public dollars meant for kids on bloated executive salaries and pet projects while eliminating vital student services our students actually need.

History will show that stealing self-governance from a community like ours hurts students, families, and the very future of public education. It is past time for F Mike Miles to go.
