In times like these, people must unite together and work to improve the conditions in which we live, work, and learn. We must prepare for a protracted battle against those who would takeover our schools, harm our students, use test scores to fire teachers and close neighborhood schools.

Let's show up IN NUMBERS this Thursday, 11/21, at 6 pm at Chavez High School, 8501 Howard Dr,  when the Texas Education Agency holds its last state takeover community forum. Read more about local resistance to takeover here.

  • Bring a sign stating why you are AGAINST state takeover or what you stand FOR.
  • Be ready to ask questions and demand answers at the meeting.
  • Bring two friends and your kids.
  • Sign this petition.

Just because they want us to buy their magic beans, does not mean that we have to buy their wares.

Commissioner Morath’s actions show a pattern of disdain for public schools. In 2014, he  unsuccessfully attempted a similar takeover in Dallas. As a school board member, Morath engineered the effort to turn Dallas ISD into a home rule charter district, claiming that the school board was dysfunctional and that its schools were failing. Sound familiar? They didn’t buy it in Dallas and we cannot accept the same scam in Houston.

TEA’s takeover of our district will rollback progressive gains and put our public schools at risk of charterization. The state has no business taking our vote and our voice away

In times like these, people must unite together and work to improve the conditions in which we live, work, and learn. We must prepare for a protracted battle against those who would takeover our schools, harm our students, use test scores to fire teachers and close neighborhood schools.

Join us at Chavez HS this Thursday at 6pm to make clear that the people are united in support of public schools, democracy and opposed to this racist magic bean takeover attempt.
