"This is my 11th year as an educator with HISD and I am committed to the students and families I serve. However this commitment should not put my life, or the lives of my students and their families at risk. I tested positive for COVID in June, six days after attending an outdoor graduation ceremony.
Today, exactly 16 weeks later, I am still battling covid symptoms and lasting effects. I continue to experience devastating fatigue, shortness of breath, and my breathing stopping during sleep.
Returning in person without effective safety protocols, rapid testing abilities, and social distancing measures puts everyone in our community at risk for illness that could last well beyond 2 weeks or even worse, death.
I am asking HISD to continue leading other school districts by being transparent and making safety the top priority for everyone. We all want to teach our students, but we want to do it safely."
