"I've always supported public ed bonds, but I can't support this one, said HISD parent Heather Taylor. It’s reckless, leaves too many schools behind, and burdens our kids with debt. Our children deserve a bond that addresses real issues, not one that wastes billions."

This is the most poorly designed bond ever!

• This bond allocates tens of millions of dollars (exhibit D) to schools slated for closure (co-location.) It’s a shocking waste of resources that betrays our communities!
• Co-locations (closures) are all in historically under-resourced Black and Brown communities, without regard for changing demographics and future needs
• This bond lacks resiliency and HISD still hasn't applied for federal sustainability grants that would pay for ac.
• This bond has a total of only 35 full and partial rebuilds – $77 to $121 million for elementary schools and $140 to $162 million for middle schools. In sharp contrast, Alvin ISD's upcoming November bond election budgets three elementary school rebuilds at just $43-$48 million.
• This bond proposal inflates construction costs up to $100 million for some schools according to the 2023 facilities assessment report.  

Until we have a superintendent who is fiscally accountable to an elected school board of trustees, no one is responsible to taxpayers for poor planning and mismanagement of funds. 

This is taxation without representation.
