Did you know that Mike Miles built into his contract that he will get two years’ pay when he leaves Houston ISD?
If he leaves by mutual agreement or is fired without cause, his contract hands him up to two years of his $462,000 salary plus bonuses, cashed-out vacation and sick days, and retirement benefits. That’s more than a $1M+ golden parachute for imposing a top-down model that’s hurt students, pushed out teachers, and decimated communities.
Make your voice count at one of what may be his final three board meetings: this Thursday (April 9), then May 14 and June 11. You must register by Wednesday at 5 pm. Pick any agenda item [agenda packet link] and sign up to speak [how to register link.]
It is a marathon, not a sprint and your voice matters. It matters in the board room, at the ballot box, and in the individual acts our families make to end the stranglehold that high stakes testing has on our schools and students. Since when did it become normal to think daily test prep is how we set children up for success in life? And why are low-income families targeted for the worst treatment?
